Finally making progress on my rallycrosser project. Didn’t trust myself to do the job myself, so had a friend help out. Naturally as soon as I’d finished the gravel brake swap, the turbo decided to gobble it’s seals.

But now it’s out! And can be sent off for a rebuild!

I was about to rant about the Subaru turbos, but I saw you had an STI. The VF-series turbos are a lot more robust than the TD04 the WRX plebes were stuck with. Still, any reason you stuck with a rebuild rather than an upgrade?

The sti has plenty of power stock in my opinion, especially for rallycross. Eventually I’m planning on running it at the Team O’Neil rallysprints & maybe Rally New York, so adding power will just complicate the class I’d like to stay in.

Makes sense to me. As I said the VF-series turbos are fairly solid so you’re probably doing fine in the long run. My experience was with the WRX, so swapping out the TD04 for something more reliable made a lot of sense.

Yeah, it made it 150k miles so I’m pretty satisfied with the reliability aspect. Here’s to another 150!
